Medical Information

Varicose veins are in 90% of patients hereditary. Only about 10% of patients suffer from varicose veins subsequent to an accident or a thrombosis with tissue destruction or vascular malformation.

The two biggest risks of having varicose veins are :

  • The formation of a thrombosis (blood clot obstructing a vessel) or even an embolism ( detached blood clot traveling to the heart, brain, lung or other organ and obstructing a smaller vessel there)
  • The development of varicose ulcers (open wounds) with massive impairment of life quality
